Chennai: Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar on Tuesday said 21 AIADMK MLAs who voted in support of the government will not face disqualification under anti-defection provisions.
Speaking to reporters, the Speaker said the decision was taken after accepting a request from EPS, based on an apology letter submitted on behalf of the 21 MLAs.
However, he said disqualification proceedings have been initiated against four AIADMK MLAs who resigned, citing that they had violated the party whip. He added that an announcement would be made after the proceedings are completed.
With this, 21 MLAs including SP Velumani, CV Shanmugam and C Vijayabaskar have avoided action. The Speaker said action has begun against Sathyabama, Maragatham Kumara Vel, Jayakumar and Isakki Subbaiya, who resigned and later joined DTVK.
