Hindu Munnani state president Kadeswara Subramaniam on Monday urged the Tamil Nadu government to immediately implement the High Court order related to lighting the lamp on the Thiruparankundram hill.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he said the organisation has been campaigning for nearly four decades seeking permission to light the lamp on the lamp post located at the hilltop. He noted that the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court had directed that permission be granted.

Subramaniam alleged that the previous DMK government did not implement the order and that the matter later led to a contempt case, forcing an open apology. He said the court has now sought to know the stand of the present government on the issue.

He also claimed that remarks made by minister Nirmalkumar had hurt the sentiments of Murugan devotees, and asked the Chief Minister to take note. The government, he said, should enforce the court’s decision without delay.
