New Delhi: The Union government is expected to publish a draft of Bharat Stage 7 (BS-7) emission norms in the current financial year, with the standards likely to be implemented by 2030, according to reports.

BS-7 would follow BS-6, which has been in force since 2020. The government is understood to be planning the next upgrade within a 10-year window, and the framework is expected to align with the European Union’s upcoming Euro 7 norms.

The proposed rules would tighten limits on vehicle exhaust emissions and require manufacturers to adopt advanced emission monitoring and improved control systems in vehicles.

The draft is expected to be placed within this fiscal year, with the auto sector likely to get a three-year window to upgrade technologies. However, some industry stakeholders are reportedly urging the Centre to extend the timeline up to the 2031 financial year.
