India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has condemned a US attack on a cargo vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, off the coast of Oman, in which three Indian sailors were killed.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said a series of incidents involving Indian seafarers has been reported in West Asia in recent days, and that the government is treating their safety and welfare as a priority.
He said India had already denounced the strike, and that US officials were summoned to convey New Delhi’s condemnation and place its concerns on record. The MEA said it expects the US side to take India’s request seriously.
Jaiswal also expressed deep concern over repeated attacks on maritime traffic, calling for such assaults to stop. He said dialogue and diplomatic efforts are needed to restore peace and stability in the region at the earliest.
