The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday announced that the first C295 military transport aircraft manufactured in India has successfully completed its initial flight test.

The C295 is being produced in India for the IAF under a joint initiative between Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems Limited. The programme is being seen as a key milestone in India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing push.

According to the IAF, the aircraft is designed to carry payloads of up to 9,000 kg and includes space to accommodate 24 stretchers, among other specialised features.

The IAF congratulated the team behind the successful test, saying the achievement strengthens India’s growing aerospace capabilities and reflects the force’s commitment to building indigenous defence capacity.

Airbus Defence also thanked the IAF, the Ministry of Defence and the Government of India for their trust, stating that the effort is helping shape the future of India’s aerospace sector.
