A cargo ship near Oman, close to the Strait of Hormuz, came under attack on Tuesday amid heightened tensions in West Asia. Following the incident, the vessel sent out an emergency distress call.

Rescue operations were carried out with assistance from the Omani Navy. Officials said the ship had 28 crew members on board, including 24 Indians.

From the burning vessel, 21 Indian sailors were brought to safety. Search efforts are continuing for three crew members who are still unaccounted for.

The source of the attack and those responsible have not been identified so far. India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the incident.

The latest attack follows a similar incident on June 8 near Oman, when an Indian ship carrying crude oil was attacked and 24 Indian sailors were rescued.
