Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee has launched a sharp attack on the party’s general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee, alleging that he has disrespected senior leaders and is responsible for the party’s decline.
The remarks come as the Calcutta High Court granted Abhishek Banerjee interim protection for three weeks in a case linked to an alleged signature fraud involving Trinamool MLAs. The court, however, directed him to appear in person before the West Bengal CID by 6 pm on Wednesday.
Speaking to an English news channel, Kalyan Banerjee said Abhishek Banerjee removed him as counsel at the last minute, calling the move humiliating. He claimed he was informed around midnight that a lawyer had been changed.
He said he would no longer appear on Abhishek Banerjee’s behalf and asserted that such “arrogant” conduct was unacceptable, citing his 45 years in the profession. He added that he would tell Mamata Banerjee to take a decision—either keep Abhishek and let the seniors go, or keep the seniors and remove Abhishek.
