MDMK MP Durai Vaiko on Wednesday said the party will take a decision at its general council meeting on June 27 on whether to contest the upcoming local body elections by joining the TVK-led alliance.

Speaking to reporters in Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, he said the state government should identify and address the reasons behind power cuts. He also criticised the removal of three news channels from the government cable network, calling it condemnable and damaging to the government’s image.

Durai Vaiko reiterated that the MDMK has not yet exited the DMK-led alliance. He said it was “unfortunate” when a party member resigns and joins another party to contest on that party’s symbol, adding that this was what he had described as personal anguish, not a claim that being in the DMK alliance was a mistake.

He further alleged that drug movement seen during the previous regime continues under the current government as well. At the same time, he welcomed the state’s move to form the “Singappen” special action force.
