The Supreme Court is set to hear a petition on June 12 filed by Congress leader and former MP Meenakshi Natarajan, challenging the rejection of her nomination for the Rajya Sabha election.

Rajya Sabha polls for 26 vacant seats across the country are scheduled for June 18. In Madhya Pradesh, where the BJP is in power under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, elections are due for three seats, and the Congress had fielded Natarajan as its candidate.

The returning officer rejected Natarajan’s nomination following a complaint by BJP candidate Mahesh Kevat, alleging that she did not disclose a case pending in a court in Telangana.

Senior Congress leaders later met Election Commission officials in Delhi, calling the rejection “anti-democratic” and urging a review of the decision.

Sources said a vacation bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Atul S Chandurkar has also raised questions on how the petition is maintainable amid an ongoing election process.
