External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has alleged that weapons sold by European countries are being used against India. He made the remarks during a discussion while on a visit to Finland.

Referring to the period after economic sanctions were imposed on Russia, Jaishankar said the United States had encouraged India in 2022 to buy Russian crude oil to help stabilise global oil markets.

He said India purchases Russian crude based on price and quality, and stressed that India will prioritise its energy needs guided by national interest. He also noted that after initially imposing duties over India’s purchase of Russian crude, the US later rolled back those restrictions.

On Europe, Jaishankar said the use of European-sold weapons against India is not new and has been happening for years. He added that Indians have never done anything that poses a threat to Europe, and that no European country has been attacked using Indian weapons.
