MDMK chief secretary Durai Vaiko on Thursday said the party will decide whether to continue in the DMK-led alliance at its general council meeting scheduled for June 27.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchirappalli, he said alliance decisions—whether to stay, exit, or contest alone—are for each party to make. In MDMK’s case, he added, the June 27 meeting will take the final decision on its tie-up with the DMK.
Durai Vaiko also described the Chief Minister Vijay’s participation in the NITI Aayog meeting as a “healthy” development. He said Tamil Nadu’s financial strain can be addressed only if the Union government releases due funds properly.
He praised the ‘Singappen’ scheme, saying it offers significant safety for women, and reiterated that all political parties in Tamil Nadu remain firm in opposing the construction of the Mekedatu dam.
Referring to the state’s debt burden of about Rs 10 lakh crore, he said the Chief Minister has sought time to fulfil promises. He expressed hope that a white paper on the financial situation would be presented and that a well-planned budget would follow, prioritising what can be implemented first.
