Minister Rajmohan on Thursday said no one should enter educational campuses displaying caste or religious symbols, stressing that schools and colleges must remain spaces that promote social justice and scientific thinking.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he said the state has discussed introducing AI, Python and other coding lessons in the first phase across 5,000 schools. Teachers will be trained and will then deliver the lessons to students.

He noted that while this year’s pass percentage was satisfactory, it was not enough, and the department is working on measures to improve results further.

The minister said teachers have been instructed to ensure that symbols—“even a small thread”—are not worn on campus, adding that he personally removes such identifiers before entering. He said there is no room for division, and only initiatives that strengthen unity should be encouraged.

Calling schools and colleges “very important places,” Rajmohan said the government is ready to take steps to prevent students from being drawn into substance abuse. He added that Tamil Nadu is doing well compared to other states, but the goal is to perform even better on a global scale.
