TIRUPPARANKUNDRAM: Hindu Tamil Party founder Rama Ravikumar on Thursday urged the state government to implement a court order to light the Karthigai Maha Deepam at the Deepa Thoon on the Tirupparankundram hilltop.
To press the demand, he offered a three-foot brass “vel” as a donation at the Subramaniya Swamy temple. He said the move was meant as a prayer and a public appeal for the authorities to carry out the judicial direction.
Ravikumar recalled that the previous administration had filed an appeal against an earlier verdict, but a bench comprising Justices Jayachandran and Ramakrishnan upheld the order to light the lamp at the hilltop pillar. Despite this, he alleged, the lamp was not lit.
He criticised the DMK government, claiming it ignored the verdict for electoral considerations, and said the election outcome went against the party. He also took aim at Tirupparankundram MLA and minister Nirmal Kumar for stating that the same procedure as two years ago would be followed, arguing that a law minister must respect court orders.
Ravikumar said those who imposed the ban on lighting the lamp are now “without work and confined at home”, and warned that such a situation should not befall TVK and the constituency’s minister.
