A field study committee formed within the DMK to review its Assembly election defeat has reportedly submitted a report to party president M K Stalin, recommending disciplinary action against certain senior functionaries.
According to information circulating in party circles, the report flags allegations that some former ministers, district secretaries and MLAs secured government contract works in their areas through proxy names and by operating as syndicates. The committee is said to have listed the individuals and urged action.
The review exercise involved 19 field study teams, of which 13 have submitted their findings, while the remaining teams have sought more time. In Chennai alone, feedback was reportedly collected from around 10,000 people.
The report, said to run to about 3,000 pages, also recommends that the party contest upcoming elections on its own, address internal issues without delay, and take action against those accused of diverting funds given to union secretaries for election work.
Other suggestions include replacing union secretaries who have held posts for more than two terms, initiating action against district secretaries who rejected party recommendations in appointments for noon-meal workers and ration shop staff, and restructuring the organisation to work with greater momentum for local body elections.
