Mumbai customs officials arrested a 28-year-old Kerala model, Harsha Sunny, after allegedly attempting to smuggle high-grade cannabis from Thailand. Authorities said the seized contraband—hydroponic marijuana—was valued at Rs 11.82 crore in the international market.
The arrest followed the arrival of a flight from Bangkok to Mumbai late night. Officials noticed the passenger appearing nervous and stopped her for questioning before checking her luggage.
During the search, officers found 12 plastic packets concealed inside a trolley bag. Chemical testing later confirmed the contents to be hydroponic marijuana leaves, after which the consignment was seized and a case was registered under narcotics laws.
Investigators are examining whether the shipment was meant only for Mumbai or intended to be moved to other parts of the country. Sunny was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.
Sunny had participated in the Mrs Kerala beauty pageant in 2025 and secured second place. She reportedly told investigators that an unidentified person handed her a bag in Thailand and said it would be collected in India, a claim officials said they did not accept as the probe continues.
