Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday issued a sharp warning to Pakistan, saying India is firm that the waters of the Indus should not be available to those who “nurture terrorism”.
Speaking at a BJP event in Hyderabad organised by the party’s Telangana unit, Singh said that after the Pahalgam terror attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty to send a clear message that those who “water and grow terrorism” should not expect water from India.
He added that India would not allow Indus waters to reach “supporters of terrorists” and “enemies of humanity”.
In the same address, Singh highlighted what he described as key achievements of the BJP’s 12-year rule, including the abrogation of Article 370, progress towards making the country largely free of Naxalism, the rollout of GST, nationwide electrification and reforms in the judiciary.
Referring to Kashmir, he said the region—once linked with terrorism—was now seeing growth in tourism, investments and employment. He also said “Operation Sindoor” demonstrated to the world that India knows how to respond to those who do not understand the language of peace.
