Washington: US President Donald Trump has reportedly decided to halt planned strikes on Iran, without informing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in advance.
According to the report, the US and Israel had kept military action on hold, while Netanyahu had been urging Trump to resume attacks. After Iranian forces shot down a US aircraft, Trump had earlier ordered a restart and also spoke about seizing Iran’s oil resources.
However, the report says the US and Iran are expected to sign a peace agreement in Europe this weekend. As part of the deal, Iran has agreed not to possess nuclear weapons.
Trump announced the decision to pause new strikes and said Iran had accepted the agreement. US media reports added that Netanyahu and Israeli officials learned of the move only after it appeared in public media coverage.
