Chandigarh: Students at Ashoka University in Sonipat, Haryana, have expressed interest in conducting academic research on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, according to reports.
Congress MP Praveen Chakravarthy, who serves as a visiting professor teaching a course on the political economy of India, said he was surprised when students applauded him in class, later learning it was to congratulate him on becoming an MP.
He further said students told him he was close to Chief Minister Vijay and requested that he act as a guide for their proposed doctoral research on the leader. Chakravarthy reportedly assured them that he would support and guide their work.
Separately, a few students from Yale University in the United States are said to have emailed Chakravarthy, stating they too wanted to research Chief Minister Vijay and requesting that Vijay visit their campus to deliver a lecture. Chakravarthy reportedly replied that he would bring the Chief Minister, with reports suggesting Vijay may travel to the US later this year and could visit Yale then.
The report also noted that former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C N Annadurai had received a visiting fellowship at Yale in 1968, and was said to be the first non-American to receive that distinction.
