Actress Gauthami has announced that she is resigning from the AIADMK. In a statement issued on June 14, she said she was taking the decision in view of the prevailing political situation.
Gauthami said she is stepping down from her primary membership of the party as well as from the post of Deputy Secretary of the party’s policy outreach wing. She added that she was doing so with a “heavy heart” and with the intention of continuing social service in a suitable manner.
She also expressed gratitude to former ministers and party functionaries who, she said, supported her during her time in the AIADMK.
Gauthami’s political journey has included earlier stints in the BJP, which she joined in 1997 and held roles such as youth wing vice-president and national executive member. She quit the BJP in 2023, alleging the party did not support her in a property-related issue, and later joined the AIADMK in 2024.
She had sought an opportunity to contest the Assembly elections, but the party leadership did not allot her a ticket, according to the report.
