The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said light rain is likely in Chennai and 14 other districts on Saturday due to a cyclonic circulation.
In its bulletin, the IMD noted that widespread rain has been occurring across Tamil Nadu under the influence of an atmospheric circulation. At present, a cyclonic circulation persists over north coastal Tamil Nadu, along with an associated trough.
Because of this system, light rain with thunder and lightning is expected at a few places in Tamil Nadu and in parts of Puducherry and Karaikal today and tomorrow.
For Saturday, the IMD indicated the possibility of light thundershowers in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur, Ariyalur and Kallakurichi, besides a few places in Puducherry.
Heavy rain with thunder and lightning is likely today in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts, the bulletin added.
