Tehran: Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Israel “miscalculated” in its war against Iran, arguing that Israeli strikes failed to produce the outcome Israel expected.
In a statement issued to mark the first anniversary of the war with Israel, Pezeshkian said Israel wrongly assessed the effect of its attacks. He said Israel believed that targeting senior military commanders and key infrastructure would weaken Iran and destabilise the Islamic Republic.
According to the president, national unity and solidarity among Iranians pushed Israel toward a position on a ceasefire. He also said the government did not ignore people’s problems even for a moment and that officials continue working to find solutions to the country’s challenges and reduce hardships.
Despite the president’s remarks, public anger has surfaced over an explanation given by Iranian minister Abbas Araghchi regarding a possible peace agreement with the United States. Hundreds gathered to protest outside the Foreign Ministry office in Mashhad, in Iran’s northeast.
