Actor Rajinikanth, who announced in December 2017 that he would enter politics, had launched the “Rajini Makkal Mandram” and began organisational work including membership drives and district-level appointments.
However, in 2020, he stepped back from his political plans citing health reasons and has since continued his film career.
In recent days, speculation resurfaced after Annamalai—who quit the BJP and launched a movement called “We the Leader”—spoke about Rajinikanth in a video, leading to claims that the actor was backing him.
Separately, actor Raghava Lawrence, described as a staunch Rajinikanth supporter, has also been speaking about entering politics while invoking Rajinikanth’s name.
Amid these developments, the All India Rajini Fans Welfare Association issued a statement on Saturday saying that no political party or organisation should use Rajinikanth’s name or photograph, adding that the announcement was made as per Rajinikanth’s instructions.
