Muscat: The US Navy has rescued 14 Indian sailors after an Indian-flagged dhow began sinking in the Arabian Sea off Oman, according to reports and official statements.

The vessel, identified as Virat-1, started taking on water around 80 nautical miles east of Ras Al Hadd. All 14 crew members, all Indian nationals, were on board when the distress alert was raised.

Following the warning, US authorities directed assets to assist in the operation. A US P-8 maritime patrol aircraft supported the search and rescue effort, and US boats were also dispatched to the area.

All 14 sailors were rescued safely. The cause of the incident has not been announced so far.

India’s Embassy in Oman confirmed the accident and said it is working with Omani authorities and other support vessels to coordinate search and rescue efforts.
