AIADMK has approached the Madras High Court seeking a direction that by-elections should not be announced for four Assembly constituencies where its MLAs have resigned.
According to the petition, the Election Commission has begun preliminary work to conduct bypolls in the seats vacated after the resignations of AIADMK MLAs Jayakumar, Maragatham Kumaravel, Sathyabama and Isakki Subbiah.
AIADMK whip Agri Krishnamoorthy has contended that the Speaker’s acceptance of the resignations was illegal, stating that the four MLAs were facing disqualification proceedings.
The matter is listed for hearing before the Chief Justice’s bench the day after tomorrow.
