Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has said that an agreement backed by US President Donald Trump will not be binding on Israel, stressing the country’s sovereignty.
According to the report, a peace agreement has been reached between Iran and the United States. The deal includes provisions calling for an immediate end to fighting across regions including Lebanon.
Tensions have escalated after Israel carried out attacks on Iran, following which Hezbollah militants operating from Lebanon launched attacks. Israel has been responding with retaliatory strikes, and Trump had condemned Israel’s latest attack.
In his statement, Ben Gvir said Israel is not a country “subordinate” to the United States and warned against yielding to international pressure without considering Israel’s security. He cited past experiences such as the Oslo agreement, the 2006 Lebanon agreement and periods of restrictions related to Gaza.
He also warned that any drone, unmanned aircraft or missile launched from Lebanon toward Israel would lead to an Israeli strike in Beirut’s Dahieh area, while adding that Israel values its relationship with the US and is grateful to Trump.
