Power Minister Nirmal Kumar on Saturday alleged that the DMK was responsible for the current situation surrounding the lighting of the beacon on the Thiruparankundram hill-top pillar. He said the matter would be resolved through legal means, keeping public calm and harmony in mind.

The minister was speaking in Melur in Madurai district after more than 2,000 people from other parties joined his party in the presence of district secretary Vishal Krishna.

On power supply management, Nirmal Kumar said 125 teams have been formed to monitor areas prone to outages, while 500-member teams are on patrol duty. With about 3.5 crore electricity consumers across the state, he said steps have been taken to address complaints without delay.

He added that the power infrastructure has lagged for several years and a white paper on the current status would be released soon. He also said Stalin and Palaniswami should clarify whether they attempted to form a government together.

The minister further remarked that when politics is centred on family welfare, it is natural for party workers to drift away. On the Mullaperiyar dam, he said storing water up to 152 feet is a matter of state rights and action should follow the Supreme Court verdict. He also said steps would be taken to inspect and reopen the Alanganallur sugar mill.
