AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) is facing renewed internal dissent, with former minister C Vijayabaskar and the party’s IT wing secretary Raj Sathyan taking positions seen as critical of the leadership and EPS’s son, Mithun.

According to the report, after the Assembly election defeat, a section of former ministers had mobilised against EPS and in favour of the TVK, with Vijayabaskar playing a key role. Later, some AIADMK MLAs, including K P Velumani, reportedly met EPS and reconciled, while Vijayabaskar and Shanmugam have not met him so far.

The report further said Vijayabaskar has been making efforts to resign as an MLA and join either the TVK or the DMK. In a post on X, he wrote that treating hardworking loyal cadres as enemies and viewing questions as a crime is not a path to victory, adding that history remembers how many people were united and how many battles were won.

Meanwhile, at an AIADMK headquarters meeting on June 13, some functionaries reportedly urged EPS to bring Mithun into active politics. EPS supporters are said to be pressing for Mithun to be given a post in the Youth Wing or the IT Wing.

Raj Sathyan, opposing the move, said in a post that the party has been carrying many pains—from the electoral setback to subsequent internal developments—and that even discussing such “unnecessary matters” at this time is wrong. With open criticism from some former ministers and resistance to the idea of promoting his son, EPS is said to be deeply displeased.
