Chennai: BJP leader K. Annamalai has questioned whether NEET candidates are being subjected to excessive restrictions and checks as they arrive to write the examination.
In a statement, he listed the security arrangements, including two-layer deployment of CRPF and CISF, transport of question papers and answer sheets via the Indian Air Force, and four-layer CCTV surveillance supported by AI technology.
He said candidates face biometric and facial-recognition verification before entry, along with multiple stages of physical screening and a multi-tier supervision system under direct monitoring by the Prime Minister’s Office.
While noting that students would appreciate steps aimed at preventing question paper leaks, Annamalai argued that intensified checks, prolonged screening and extending the total exam duration from 180 minutes to 195 minutes could further add to the growing stress among students.
He also said that despite the elaborate arrangements, there have been difficulties in downloading admit cards, and noted that the National Testing Agency (NTA) has assured students the issues will be fixed soon. He expressed concern that procedures framed for a NEET re-examination could create new problems instead of resolving existing ones.
