New Jersey: Belgium avoided defeat against Egypt as the Group F World Cup match ended 1-1 at MetLife Stadium in the United States.

Belgium controlled possession from the start but struggled to break through Egypt’s organised defence. Egypt captain Mohamed Salah featured on his 34th birthday.

Egypt took the lead in the 29th minute when Mostafa Mohamed finished a move set up by Salah, sending his side into the break 1-0 ahead.

Egypt continued to defend strongly after the restart, keeping Belgium at bay until the closing stages. In the 86th minute, Lois Openda struck to level the score and keep Belgium in the contest.

Neither team found a winner in stoppage time, and the match finished 1-1, with both sides taking one point each.
