DYFI and SFI unions held a protest at the Madurai Collectorate, raising allegations of financial malpractice linked to the Madurai Municipal Corporation.
According to the protesters, the city’s solid waste management work is being carried out by a private contractor. They claimed the firm has been operating in violation of contract conditions.
The unions also alleged that materials such as stones and sand were being shown as garbage, and flagged this as part of the suspected irregularities.
The protest sought action from the district administration regarding the alleged violations and financial issues connected to the contract.
