TASMAC has suspended 200 employees over the past 20 days for collecting more than Rs 10 extra per liquor bottle at its retail outlets in Tamil Nadu.
According to the report, some shops were charging customers Rs 10 or Rs 20 above the government-fixed price, leading to complaints from liquor buyers.
Even after the new government assumed office, the practice of collecting extra money reportedly continued, prompting a rise in complaints to the government.
Following this, TASMAC instructed district managers to conduct intensive inspections and take action against staff found overcharging. Managers were also warned that action would be taken against them if they showed negligence.
District managers and flying squad officials have since stepped up checks at outlets, resulting in the suspension of 200 staff members during the inspection drive.
