BJP Tamil Nadu state treasurer S R Sekar has said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has identified Tamil Nadu as the party’s next major political objective. Writing in a commentary, Sekar argued that Shah’s remarks reflect confidence drawn from the BJP’s growth in several states over the past decade.
Sekar pointed to the party’s advances in places where it once had limited presence, citing Assam, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal as examples of expansion. He also claimed that the BJP and its allies are currently in power in 22 states, and described this as evidence of organisational planning and sustained effort.
Referring to a meeting in Delhi, Sekar said Shah spoke about Tamil Nadu’s current political situation and described the state as the “next agenda”. He claimed Shah believes the BJP can “recover” Tamil Nadu over the next five years through strategy, experience and hard work.
Sekar also used historical examples from the party’s past to argue that the BJP prioritises ideology over compromise, citing instances where leaders were sidelined or left the party after disagreements. He concluded that the present political alignment in Tamil Nadu has created a situation where “everyone on one side and the BJP on the other”, and said rival parties continue to use the BJP’s name to mobilise support—something he described as a sign of the BJP’s strength.
