Chennai: The Viralimalai Assembly constituency has been declared vacant following the resignation of AIADMK MLA and former minister C. Vijayabaskar.
Vijayabaskar met Speaker JCD Prabhakar at the Secretariat and submitted his resignation letter. The Speaker accepted the resignation, after which the seat was formally notified as vacant.
With Viralimalai added to the list, the number of vacant Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu has risen to six.
The vacant seats are: Tiruchirappalli East, Madurantakam, Dharapuram, Perundurai, Ambasamudram and Viralimalai.
An announcement on by-elections for these constituencies is expected soon.
