Chennai: Annamalai, founder of the ‘We The Leaders’ movement, said the organisation’s political action will begin next month and that the public will see a distinct change in its functioning in July.
In a video message released on Tuesday, he said the initiative is currently operating as a movement, but will take on a different character once it begins functioning as a political movement.
Annamalai claimed that around 18 lakh people have joined ‘We The Leaders’ and said he did not personally call anyone to invite them to join, including members of the party he was previously associated with. He said a genuine people’s movement is built when individuals join on their own without expectations.
He also said the group is using an OTP-based method for enrolment, and that it wants to understand whether those joining intend to contest elections or work as volunteers. According to him, thousands expressed interest in contesting local body elections, while lakhs said they would volunteer to help build the movement and bring “good politics” when it becomes a political party.
He added that the organisation has not yet begun its activities on a large scale, and thanked supporters who have joined with hope and expectations.
