Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Wednesday described the singing of the national anthem both at the beginning and at the end of the Governor’s address in the Assembly as a “historic” moment.
The first session of the new government began with the Governor’s address, which Arlekar read in the House. In a statement, he said it was the first time the anthem was rendered twice around the address.
Arlekar also said it was satisfying that the Governor’s full speech was read in the Assembly without any interruption after a gap of three years.
He added that the development reflected people’s expectation for a harmonious atmosphere between the state government and Raj Bhavan, and would help uphold the dignity of democracy. He said all stakeholders should work together to meet public needs through coordinated and cordial relations.
