AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Wednesday said his son would not enter politics and asked the press and media not to spread rumours. Speaking to reporters at the Assembly complex in Chennai, he said his son is only a basic member of the party and holds no post.

EPS also attacked the new government, alleging that its assurances on curbing drugs, ensuring women’s safety and maintaining law and order have not been reflected on the ground. He cited figures for the first 38 days of the administration, claiming 150 POCSO cases, 126 sexual crimes against women and 130 murders.

On agriculture, he said election-time promises on farm loan waivers were diluted, alleging that the government announced limited relief amounts instead of the earlier commitments. He also criticised the failure to open water from the Mettur dam for kuruvai cultivation, arguing that talks with Karnataka could have secured water.

Referring to the Governor’s address, EPS said several announcements made earlier—such as implementing hundreds of schemes and a monthly women’s entitlement of Rs 2,500—did not find mention. He further pointed to frequent power cuts and said the government should procure adequate electricity to ensure uninterrupted supply.

EPS said the government had highlighted large debts and losses across departments, but argued that these were known even before the election and yet promises were made. He claimed the Governor’s address contained no new announcements and suggested that a “white paper” was issued to justify not fulfilling commitments.
