Chennai: Opposition leader Udhayanidhi on Wednesday described the Governor’s address as “reels content material”, alleging it offered little by way of new announcements or clear commitments on fulfilling election promises.

He claimed the present government was “copy-pasting” schemes and demands associated with the previous DMK administration, and said the address reflected contradictions rather than a fresh roadmap for Tamil Nadu’s development.

Udhayanidhi also took a swipe at the Chief Minister over women’s safety remarks made during the election campaign, saying the current situation did not match the rhetoric.

Referring to political developments in the Assembly, he alleged the Chief Minister had been “panic buying” AIADMK MLAs since the day the government was formed. He warned that the opposition would not stay silent if earlier schemes were stalled.

Udhayanidhi further noted that during the DMK’s tenure, the Governor did not read government speeches in full and often made changes, but this time the address prepared by the current government was read without altering even a line. He said this had led to public speculation about an understanding between the ruling party and the BJP.
