Iran said a peace agreement with the United States has been signed and that the focus now shifts to implementing it.
The development comes as the war between the United States and Israel has crossed 110 days. US President Donald Trump had earlier said a peace agreement would be signed on the 19th, but reports indicated the two sides had already signed a digital version in advance.
An American official confirmed that President Trump signed the agreement with Iran while attending the G7 summit in France. US outlet Axios reported the signing took place during a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles after the summit.
Iran also confirmed it had signed the agreement. Despite the signatures, both countries have a 60-day window to negotiate the terms of the final deal.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told the country’s state news agency that a memorandum of understanding bearing the signatures of both presidents has been finalised, adding that it is now time to test implementation under the agreement.
