Mukesh Ambani has said India should not remain dependent on energy imports, warning that the country’s current reliance makes it vulnerable to global developments.
Speaking at a Reliance Industries meeting in Mumbai, Ambani noted that India depends on imports for about 70% of its energy needs. He said this situation can create difficulties during international disruptions and is not sustainable over the long term.
Ambani said Reliance sees it as its responsibility to ensure India’s future is not constrained by energy insecurity. He added that the company is pursuing an integrated energy strategy to support India’s goal of energy self-reliance.
According to him, the strategy spans solar power, wind energy, hydrogen energy and coal. Reliance is also building five integrated growth verticals covering underground coal gasification, bio-energy, new energy, and oil-to-chemicals.
He said a green energy ecosystem would not only transform the company’s traditional energy business but also open significant opportunities for future growth. Ambani added that combining new energy initiatives with artificial intelligence-led operations could create a business model that is difficult to replicate globally.
