Details have emerged about the gifts Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented to leaders in France and Slovakia during his recent overseas tour, which included participation in events such as the G7 summit.
During the Slovakia leg, 11 agreements were signed in the presence of the two prime ministers, and PM Modi was also honoured with Slovakia’s highest award. Alongside the official engagements, he presented items showcasing India’s cultural heritage.
For Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, PM Modi gifted Deva Modi cufflinks—traditional jewellery craft from Pratapgarh in Rajasthan—made using the distinctive Deva technique with finely carved gold plates combined with coloured glass and nature-inspired motifs.
To Slovak Speaker Richard Raši, the Prime Minister presented multiple gifts, including the traditional sweet ‘Thekua’ associated with festivals such as Chhath Puja, prepared using wheat flour, jaggery or sugar, fennel and ghee. He also gifted two classical Ayurveda texts—Sushruta Samhita by Sushruta and Charaka Samhita compiled by Acharya Charaka—along with a Himroo tie and handkerchief.
In France, PM Modi presented President Emmanuel Macron with a Kalamkari painting from Andhra Pradesh depicting scenes from the Mahabharata, created using traditional pen-painting techniques and said to have taken six months to complete. France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron received a Pochampally silk stole, a handloom weave using Telangana’s traditional resist-dyeing technique.
