Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has claimed that Chief Minister Vijay is considering handing over the Home Department to another minister.

In a statement, Palaniswami referred to the arrest of a TVK union functionary from Thiruthuraipoondi in connection with an alleged sexual harassment case involving a young woman. He demanded strict legal action against the accused.

Saying it is the government’s duty to prevent crime and protect the public, Palaniswami alleged that recent developments suggest people need protection from ruling party functionaries. He also criticised the Chief Minister, remarking that Vijay handles his duties like a “desk job” between 9 am and 5 pm, and questioned whether law and order was being addressed even during that time.

Separately, Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran said the incident near the Tiruvarur bus stand, allegedly involving the Thiruthuraipoondi North TVK union secretary Anand and his friend Ashok, was shocking. He urged CM Vijay to ensure party cadres and office-bearers are taught basic respect and discipline towards women, not just political principles on stage.
