Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has firmly denied reports claiming that his son Mithun is set to enter politics, calling such claims a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation.
In an interview on Wednesday, Palaniswami said Mithun is only a basic member of the AIADMK and holds no post in the party. “My son will not enter politics,” he said, reiterating that the rumours are false.
Palaniswami credited the party’s leadership and cadre work for former minister Vijayabaskar’s victory in the Viralimalai constituency. He warned that those who fail to respect the efforts of party workers would face consequences in the future.
Explaining the party’s internal review, he said that with around 2,500 participants expected at the general council, administrators at district, union, city and town panchayat levels may not be able to share their views there. The party is therefore collecting feedback district-wise on reasons for defeats before convening executive and general council meetings.
He also criticised former minister C V Shanmugam, noting that while Shanmugam had lost in Villupuram in the 2021 election, he was the only one to win in the district this time, even as three candidates he recommended were defeated. Palaniswami rejected criticism that he has faced “continuous defeats”, saying he had won with the highest vote margin in Tamil Nadu, and asserted that the AIADMK’s influence remains strong.
