New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed confidence that in the coming years, India’s youth will take the lead in global development, innovation and entrepreneurship.

He was speaking at an event at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi, where he released the first instalment of ₹2,400 crore as incentives for 15 lakh employees under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana’, a programme launched last year to boost employment.

Modi said he had returned only hours earlier from visits to France and Slovakia, and had met leaders of developed nations at the G7. He noted that countries are increasingly discussing and recognising the capabilities and energy of Indian youth.

Stressing that India is among the nations with the largest youth population, he said the country’s progress depends on young people’s skills, dreams and drive. He added that the government’s effort is to ensure opportunities for talent, platforms for new ideas and innovation, and full support for those who want to achieve independently.

Citing the growth of the startup ecosystem, Modi said India once had around 500 startups, but now has about 2 lakh registered startups across districts. He said such trends strengthen confidence in India’s youth leading the world in the years ahead, as India also pursues new trade agreements that open fresh opportunities.
