Allegations have surfaced that untreated underground sewage is being let into the Noyyal river near the Puttuvikki area close to Ukkadam in Coimbatore.

According to the complaint, the sewage flows through the Noyyal and eventually mixes with the Cauvery river near Karur.

The Cauvery is a key source for combined drinking water schemes that supply multiple districts, raising concerns over the safety of the water source.

The issue was highlighted in a Dinamalar TV report dated June 20, 2026.
