Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police conducted a surprise inspection at the Paramakudi Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Ramanathapuram district, leading to allegations that a vehicle inspector received bribe money through GPay.
According to officials, the RTO operates on the Paramakudi–Mudukulathur road, while certain work is being carried out at the ITI campus due to lack of space for audits at the main office. The inspection was carried out around 3 pm under the leadership of DSP Ramachandran.
During the raid, brokers and driving school staff reportedly attempted to flee but were detained and questioned. Police said a check involving vehicle inspector Thangaraj (59) and others revealed Rs 1,92,650 in unaccounted cash.
Investigators also examined brokers’ mobile phones and found evidence of money transfers totalling about Rs 5 lakh via GPay to bank accounts belonging to the inspector’s relatives. Following this, a case has been registered against Thangaraj, brokers and others — 15 people in total.
