Uddhav Thackeray has said he is prepared to step down as Shiv Sena party president amid continuing turmoil and a split within the party.

The statement comes after six MPs from Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction joined the BJP. He was reportedly shaken when the MPs ignored a call for a parliamentary party meeting.

Speaking emotionally to party workers at an event in Mumbai, Thackeray said Shiv Sena cadres were not demoralised but energised. He added that if supporters no longer had trust and loyalty towards him, he was ready to relinquish the post.

Thackeray also apologised to voters who had backed the MPs in the 2024 Lok Sabha election and have now left the party. He further remarked that despite a 30-year alliance, his side did not merge with the BJP, and questioned how they could be expected to align with the Congress.
