Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to take a direct role in efforts to strengthen the BJP’s organisation in Tamil Nadu, according to party sources.
The sources said that after the party’s push in West Bengal, Shah’s focus has turned towards Tamil Nadu, with about two-and-a-half years remaining for the next Lok Sabha election.
As a first step, Shah is expected to visit Chennai in the second week of next month. He is likely to take part in meetings of the Tamil Nadu BJP core committee and district presidents.
Thereafter, he is expected to tour the state once every two months, with plans to visit cities and regions including Chennai, Coimbatore, Ramanathapuram and Kanniyakumari, and attend meetings of booth committee functionaries.
Party sources added that, following directions from the BJP leadership, state president Nainar Nagendran and other functionaries have been meeting prominent individuals from various fields and sharing compilations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12 years in office. Shah is also expected to meet such key figures in person and seek their views on the BJP’s governance.
