Actor Anbu Dasan Paleech, known for a range of roles across films and web series, has said he wants to be part of movies that families can celebrate. Speaking about his journey, he recalled growing up in Thanjavur, studying engineering in Dindigul, and being drawn to theatre and speech contests from school days.
He said cinema was not his original plan, as he once aspired to join the Indian Air Force after growing up near an airbase. After that did not work out, he moved to Chennai, worked as a sound engineer at a YouTube channel, and spent about a year and a half doing dubbing for serials and short films.
His acting break came with a friend’s role in Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi’s Meesaya Murukku. He later auditioned for Kolamaavu Kokila and said he realised only later that it was a big project featuring Nayanthara, Yogi Babu and Anirudh, which went on to receive a strong response. He subsequently acted in films including Adithya Varma, O Manapenne, Zombie, Amaran and Joe.
Anbu Dasan also spoke about acting in the Hindi web series Killer Soup, where he said the selection process ran for six months and involved auditions of around 800 candidates nationwide. He added that he has acted in another Hindi project, aided by his ability to read and write the language.
He said the confidence to direct and act in a feature film grew during the Hindi web-series shoot. With actor Nassar’s help, he learned screenwriting, completed a course in Pune, and has finished writing a script that he plans to direct and star in, based on a story that emerged from his YouTube web series Kalyana Samayal Saadham. Emphasising his personal values, he said he is careful to choose roles that women in his family would not frown upon, and that he prefers films that families can enjoy together.
