The Union government has conferred Navratna status on Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), a defence public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence.
Headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, GRSE is a leading public-sector shipbuilder that designs and builds advanced warships for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard.
GRSE was recognised as a PSU in 1960 and is noted for being the first shipyard in India to build and deliver more than 100 warships to the Navy.
The government said the Navratna recognition reflects the company’s consistent financial strength and performance. The status is expected to give GRSE greater autonomy, including the ability to undertake larger investments.
GRSE’s revenue rose from Rs 1,754 crore in FY 2021-22 to Rs 7,002 crore in FY 2025-26, while profit after tax increased from Rs 190 crore to Rs 748 crore over the same period.
