The NEET re-examination began across the country at 2 pm on June 21. In Tamil Nadu alone, about 1.42 lakh students are appearing for the test.

NEET is the entrance exam for undergraduate medical and dental courses such as MBBS and BDS. The exam held on the 3rd of last month by the National Testing Agency (NTA) was cancelled after complaints that the question paper had leaked.

Following the cancellation, the NTA announced a re-test on June 21. Professors and translators involved in preparing the question paper were housed at a secret location, and exam materials were transported to centres for the first time using Air Force aircraft and helicopters.

With heightened security, the re-exam is being conducted in 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, with more than 22.79 lakh candidates appearing. The test will continue until 5:15 pm, and candidates with disabilities will be allowed an additional hour.

Security at exam centres is being handled by CISF personnel and Central Reserve Police forces. Aadhaar-based biometric verification has also been implemented to prevent impersonation, and the Telegram app was temporarily blocked citing its alleged role in the earlier leak.
